Electric Vehicle Charging Station With the increasing requirement in green technologies in transportation, electric vehicles have proven to be the best short-term solution to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The conventional vehicle drivers are still unwilling in using such a new technology, mainly because of the time duration (4-8 hours) required to charge the electric vehicle batteries with the currently existing Level I and II charging station. For this reason, Level III fast- charging stations capable of reducing the charging duration to 10-15 minutes are being designed and developed. The present thesis focuses on the design of a fast-charging station for electric vehicle, in addition to the electrical grid, two stationary energy storage devices flywheel energy storage and a super capacitor is being used. Power electronic converters used for the interface of the energy sources with the charging stations are designed. The design development also focuses on the energy management that will minimize the battery charging time. For this reason, an algorithm that minimizes durations with its mathematical formulation is required, and its application in fast charging will be illustrated. Choice of technology adopted- Emerging trends in electrical engineering: Electrical Vehicle fast charging technique is brought under adaptation as to reduce charging duration required to charge the electric vehicle battery. The design development also focuses on energy management that will minimize the battery charging time How project is ecofriendly? Electric Vehicles don’t emit climate damaging greenhouse gases or health-harming nitrogen oxide. They are easy to operate. Electric vehicles have lots of advantages over cars that run on gasoline or diesel. Whether locally available resources & materials are used? The design of circuit consists of number of electrical components. All electrical circuits are assembled together in single wooden box which was unused material. Also solar panel, a lab apparatus provided by college is brought in used. Charging station booth of wooden chalk box is also used in the project. Explain functioning? The charging circuit is supplied by single phase 230V AC supply. The transformer steps down the voltage to 12V, 5A. The supply further is provided to rectifier circuit. This rectifier circuit converts AC supply to DC supply. Further this DC supply is regulated by voltage regulator circuit and it is indicated by green LED. This supply is given to DC to DC buck converter. In this 12V constant dc supply is provided at the output for charging lithium-ion battery of 14.6 volts. Thus battery is charged in 12-13 minutes. How Project is friendly? It is easy to operate. The project is made from commercial and business point of view. The application of this project is also beneficial for parking’s in residential buildings. The main purpose of project is to reduce charging time so customers can start using the electric vehicles on large scale also. Project is complete or still in development? Project is partially completed but further development is in process. Innovation- Fast charging technique is developed so as to reduce charging duration time also public can afford the electric vehicle cost.
