Determination of recycling areas by treating domestic wastewater with membrane filtration methods.

In this research, it is aimed to recycle domestic wastewater by combining classical water treatment systems with membrane technology and making it suitable for irrigation and water resources to be discharged because of the existing fresh water resources in the world especially in our country can not meet the needs. The reason why we are looking for an alternative way to recycle waste water is the increasing need for water and the deterioration of the ecological balance formed in this direction. The project was started with the preparation of the bioreactor. 650 ml of city water was taken into a 5 liters plastic bottle that we will use as a bioreactor. Nutrient content (peptone-500 mg/L, NaCl-1 mg/L, CaCl2-250 mg/L) has been added to the plastic bottle to keep microorganisms alive. Aerobic microorganisms have been inoculated into the bioreactor. Measurements of domestic waste water that was aerated in the bioreactor for 3 days were made every day and it was observed that the bacteria inoculated into the water removed approximately 85% of organic carbon. In the study, two different membranes were used to obtain higher efficiency. Suspended solids, bacteria, viruses and protozoa were removed by the first membrane ultrafiltration (UF). Dissolved organics, nitrogen and phosphorus were removed by the second membrane reverse osmosis (RO). In this way, it has been removed from domestic wastewater characteristics and made suitable for irrigation purposes or discharge sources. Chlorine, sulfate and nitrate removal rates were obtained by ion chromatography measurement of the treated water. In the project, domestic wastewater has been made harmless to irrigation and discharge sources as a result of biological treatment with the use of UF and RO membranes by trying a method other than conventional water treatment techniques. When considering Turkey’s need for water and implemented zero waste project, it has been predicted that by implementing it on an industrial scale, large amount of wasted water will be recovered
